This series was inspired by many hours spent in art museums. As an artist I love to watch people intermingling with pictures. I am intrigued by the contrast of the organic complexity of humans being and the stark, static images on the walls. The interplay of these forms, the aspects of their light and substance and the idea and reality of life touching art occupy me in these studies.
There is also a pun in my making these pictures—pictures of people looking at pictures. There is an irony that softens some of the self-conscious seriousness of art for me.

I find the pictures humorous as well as poignant. There are people sitting slumped and staring, overwhelmed with the prospect of having to really look at what is before them. Others pass through quickly, preoccupied with the daunting task of simply surviving. Still others stand as close as they are allowed, gazing into the mystery, praying for some small redemption somehow.

The series is about paradox, the very heart of the creative process. In the alienation within the secluded walls of the museum, in which art and people have been taken out of context, lies the chance that eyes will be opened, that vision will be taught to receive and union will occur. Or not.
